Youth Hostels in the Czech Republic and Slovakia
Not all youth hostels and junior hotels (operated by the National Youth Travel Organization) are open year-round in the Czech and Slovak Republics.
The closer you are to the center of a larger city, the more likely they are to stay open in the off-season (meaning the late fall and winter months). Hostels and junior hotels are inexpensive and therefore crowded, especially during the holiday seasons like Christmas and New Year’s. Don’t expect to find peace and quiet or privacy in a hostel. And plan to abide by certain rules, such as curfews and wake-up calls, that you wouldn’t often encounter in a regular hotel or private room.
If, on the other hand, you want to meet droves of rowdy and often beer-soaked young travelers, then hostels might be just the thing for you. They can be ridiculously cheap, usually starting around 10 dollars.
