Unisea has been in business since 1974. The company converted a Liberty Ship from the Second World War into a seafood processing vessel. The ship, called the Barge Unisea, was towed to Dutch Harbor, Alaska, in July of 1975. It started processing seafood products in October of that year.
Unisea also operates a cold storage and processing plant in Redmond, Washington. The company’s administrative offices are located next to the processing plant. The Barge Unisea is no longer in use, but company employees are hard at work processing up to 1,200 metric tons of fish each day. The company processes pollock, halibut, cod, snow crab, Alaska king crab and fish oil.
