Polish Food and Drink
Slavic cuisine is heavy on meat and starch and not much else, and thus rarely elicits gasps of gastronomic rapture. Put another way, the Poles will never threaten the French or the Italians in any kind of culinary battle. Salivation is rarely, if ever, the motivation for anyone to visit Poland.
If you’re an avid drinker of distilled spirits, Poland is much closer to heaven. The Polish national drink is vodka, and lots of it. Beer is becoming increasingly popular, as well.
Just because Poland’s cuisine has never quite attracted international attention doesn’t mean the Poles are short on hospitality. In fact, quite the contrary. When visiting a Polish home expect to be treated like a VIP. Your hosts will undoubtedly expect you to ingest great quantities of heavy food and strong drink.
