YMCA and YWCA Jobs
The YMCA is one of the largest non-profit community service organizations operating in the United States. They recruit for many sports related positions in addition to other types of jobs. The “Y” has over 20 million members in the United States and provides volunteer opportunities for over 500,000 people. The YMCA is one of the largest providers of child care services in the nation, with 10,000 locations serving over 500,000 children.
The Young Men’s Christian Association was formed in London, England in June of 1844. The organizations’ founder, George Williams, established the YMCA to give young men who had moved to the city an alternative to life on the streets. The idea took hold quickly and by 1851 there were 24 chapters operating in the United Kingdom. The first American chapter of the YMCA opened its doors in Boston in December of that year.
