Ridgerunners and Caretakers
Ridgerunners and caretakers share information about the Appalachian Trail with visitors. Their goal is to remind people about behaving responsibly while using the Trail and to help everyone have a positive experience while visiting the area.
The Ridgerunners are assigned to hike along a specific portion of the Trail. Caretakers are less mobile, since they are assigned to provide information and assistance to visitors from overnight sites at different spots along the trail.
Ridgerunners and Caretakers receive competitive wages.
The salary level depends on the candidate’s experience and the position they are hired for. Most Ridgerunner and Caretaker positions include room and board.
Applications for paid positions are due in January for consideration for the upcoming season. To learn more about the opportunities available at the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, please visit the Employment page of their web site.
