TGIF dear readers! The blogosphere has been a buzz this week with job search news and advice. Here’s a look at some of what I’ve been reading this week.
If you’ve read a job-related article or blog post this week that you want to share, please do so in the comments section!
>> The Keys to Landing a Job This Summer @ The Campus Buzz
Yes, it’s still cold outside, but if you’re in the market for a summer job, now is the time to find it. Especially given the dire news that summer job opportunities (like the rest of the job market) are a bit dried up this year.
>> Eight Little Known Tips for the Job Hunt @ the San Francisco Gate’s Savvy Networker
This article from the San Francisco Gate has a wonderfully fresh perspective on job hunting advice (do you ever feel like you keep reading the same recycled advice over and over again?!?). I especially enjoyed this innovative suggestion on resume writing. What a cool idea!
Add a quote to your resume. Got a favorite quote (in writing) from a boss who praised your work? Add it to your resume in place of the tedious “References available on request.” Everyone knows your references are available. Tell us (in twenty words or fewer) what one of those people actually said about you — the more specific the kudos, the better.
>> Network, network, network @ Career Alley
A good reminder that if you aren’t networking today, you aren’t job searching today. It can get tedious, but it really is your best shot at landing your next job.
>> How Social Networking Sites Can Derail Your Job Search @ The College Recruiter
I’ve talked ’til I’m blue in the face about the importance of networking, including online networking, to find your next job. This post, however, has some good warnings about how not to networking online. Let’s face it, people, if you don’t want your future employer to see a picture of you passed out at a college frat party, then for goodness sake don’t post that picture on Facebook. It’s that simple, but you gotta heed the warning!
>> Top 10 Social Sites for Finding a Job @ Mashable
I have talked a lot about social networking sites like Facebook and LinkedIn, but have you heard of Plaxo and JobFox? I hadn’t until I read this post from Mashable. Check out his list of ten sites you need to know about if you want to maximize the social networking side of your job search.
That’s it for me this fine Friday! I hope you all have a great weekend. See you back here Monday morning!
