Foreign Exchange Trader
The ultimate goal for many entering the Forex arena, the Forex trader is responsible for implementing the executions of Forex transactions for clients, banks, and/or funds.
Forex traders develop specialties early on in their careers. They will follow a few, or even one, currency and the politics and economy of its country. Many traders specialize in groups of geographically related countries, such as those who trade Western European currencies or the currencies of the Pacific Rim.
Standard Requirements include:
- A bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, or a related field. An Advanced degree is sometimes preferred.
- Experience in the financial industry and the Forex market.
- NASD Series 7 and 63 certification (some firms will allow this to be done laterally, usually within 1 year)
Foreign Currency Analyst
An Analyst position with a bank or financial institution requires more experience in the Forex market industry. Also, this position requires more management experience.
Foreign Currency Analysts also have the ability (and responsibility) to trade in the Forex markets, as well as the responsibility to monitor all foreign currency accounts and transactions. This is a global job that requires a lot of communication with foreign traders and banks.
Standard Requirements include:
- BA/BS in Economics, Finance or related field.
- CFA (Certified Financial Analyst) certification.
- Experience in a Financial Analyst role.
- Fluency in a foreign language.
