What a beautiful day! My whole family is outside enjoying the unseasonably warm weather… except for me! I’m stuck inside working.

C’est la vie, I guess: Such is the life of a freelancer! I am managing to find a lot of great inspiration from the blogosphere today, though, and wanted to share some of my favorite reading material with you.

>> Can Networking Impact Your Income? 81% of Elite Professionals Think So @ The Smart Networking Blog. I just came across this blog recently and it’s great. The author is networking guru Liz Lynch, author of Smart Networking. Given the current economy, networking has never been more important. And according to Liz’s post, it’s not just important for helping you find a job, but also for helping you land a high paying one! Be sure to read some of her older posts as well, as Liz has a wealth of insights about the art of networking.

>> 5 Career Tips Women Should Run From @ Penelope Trunk’s Brazen Careerist. If you’ve ever read one of my weekend link love posts, I don’t need to tell you how much I love BC. But this post is particularly eye-opening. As a professional woman, I see a lot of myself in her list. Unfortunately I tend to fall on the “run from” side more often than not. I guess that means I need to give her suggestions some deeper thought! What about you?

>> Help for the 2009 Grad @ Canada’s My Career Magazine. Hey, this sounds familiar! I just did a post about the very same thing less than two weeks ago (see my Career Tips for College Seniors). I guess that just means my advice was timely 😉 My favorite advice from this north of the border blogger is the last time to “think outside the box”. He writes:

Some recently laid off job seekers in the US have been resorting to extreme measures, including wearing a sandwich board advertising their job hunt and posting a resume in the back of a cab.  While these are extreme, you do need to figure out how to set yourself apart from everyone else.

I am not sure that I would suggest resorting to a sandwich board, but I do completely concur that in this economy, you really need to think about how to set yourself apart from the crowd.

Looks like there are going to be a whole lot more green-collar job opportunities on the horizon shortly. Now that’s good news! (I blogged about green collar careers a few months ago. Click the link!
