Do you know much about the US Customs and Border Protection? This multi-billion dollar government agency employs the front line heroes that keep the United States safe. The CBP is part of the Department of Homeland Security and they have the massive, complex, and vast task of protecting the borders of the United States.

The CBP protects over 95,000 miles of shoreline, 5,525 miles of US/Canada border, and 1,989 miles of US/Mexico border. Over 500 million people cross the borders each year. The 301 border patrol facilities employ over 20,000 border patrol agents who work around the clock to monitor the traffic on these borders. It’s a challenging and dangerous task and the CBP is always looking for brave new border patrol agents to sign up.

Border Patrol Agents inspect every person, vehicle, and package that crosses into the United States. It is their job to enforce all regulations, monitor immigration, detect smuggling operations, and prevent terrorism. They may work at 24-hour border checkpoints, go on covert operations to identify and prevent illegal actions, or do routine checks. It’s a busy job that requires dedication.

To become a border patrol agent, applicants must be US citizens and reside in the US. They must pass physical tests, entrance exams, polygraph exams, and have pass a background check. Border patrol agents carry firearms and must be able to drive. The majority of border patrol agent jobs are on the US/Mexico border, but there are still many on the US/Canada border and on the coastline.
