What I’m Reading This Weekend

Hope you all have been having a great weekend.  I have been busy reading this weekend, all about the depressing unemployment rates for November, on the one hand — and recession-proof jobs, on the other.

I also have some great job-hunting tips in here, too.  Happy reading and have a great rest of your weekend!

>> Unemployment Rates Reach 34-Year High in November 2008 @ Yahoo Finance. The news is definitely disheartening, but knowledge is power, so take it in stride.

>> Top Recession-Proof Careers @ Five Cent Nickel.  It’s the silver-lining to the unemployment news: There are still people with jobs out there, and here is a look at the industries that are most stable in this rocky economy.
>> The Best Recession Proof Jobs @ MSN’s Smart Spending blog. Here’s an even more in-depth look at recession-proof industries from four top career consultants.

>> Bright Spots in the Bad Economy @ Lindsey Pollak. Even more encouraging news.  Lindsey has a list of five places to look for a job right now — everywhere from the state of North Dakota to the country of Australia.  If relocating is not in the plans for you, consider #2 (working for a women-owned business) or #5 (the accounting industry).

>> Cover Letter Don’ts @ My Career’s Blog. Ten great tips for writing the best cover letter possible.  For more on cover letter writing, check out the JobMonkey’s Job Hunting Advice section.

>> I’m On LinkedIn — Now What? @ JibberJobber. Some more insights on how to used LinkedIn to network online.  If you don’t know much about social networking, you can start learning about it from this post on the JobMonkey blog last month.

>> Adapt to the Job Market in a Down Economy @ Boston.com.  All around good insights from Rich Milgram, founder and CEO of Beyond.com.

This it for me this fine Sunday evening.  Have you read anything extra inspiring or insightful this week?  Share it with us in the comments section.
