It’s Performance Review Time

A performance review is an opportunity to check in with your supervisor to see how you are doing through your boss’s eyes. Most companies conduct a performance review annually, quarterly, or mid-season. It’s a great opportunity for both you and your boss to open the lines of communication and see how things are going at work.

Performance reviews are typically a written report where you are scored on your skills, ability, communication, and overall job performance. Every job has different categories, but the review serves the same purpose for you to learn how to do a better job and how to keep your boss happy.

When you sit down and have a performance review with your boss, read over the review carefully and openly discuss the report. Be open to constructive criticism. No one is perfect and there is always room for improvement. Keep a level head. Be sure that you have the opportunity to respond to your critique. Feel free to ask questions and explore why your boss scored you the way that she did.

Performance reviews ensure continuous improvement. The biggest thing is that you learn from your review. If you’re worried, try to review yourself first. Honestly try to determine where you stand.

When you know where you stand, it can be easier  to grow as a professional, to climb the career ladder, and to find your next job.
