Hot Jobs 39: Government Jobs with NASA, Census Bureau, ATF

Happy Wednesday! It’s Hot Jobs day, but I first apologize for missing last Wednesday’s installment. I have a good excuse, though — I was having a baby!

She’s a perfect little angel and sleeping quietly next to me right now while I search out this week’s hottest jobs! That’s also the reason the posting has been a little sparser than normal, but hopefully I’ll be back into my normal posting routine soon.

Anyway, back to business: Hot Jobs. As you know, each Wednesday, I post three hot new job openings from our job database at the JobMonkey Job Center. There are pages and pages of great new jobs at the Job Center right now, including a trove of newly posted federal government jobs.

1. Social Science Statistician Job, U.S. Census Bureau, Suitland, MD
This job with the Census Bureau is NOT one of the thousands of temporary census worker positions that the federal government is currently looking to fill. Rather, this full-time job is for a social scientist to design, manage and analyze surveys and studies about topics as Population Size and Distribution, Income and Poverty, Employment and Unemployment, Family and Fertility, Health and Disability, and Housing and Neighborhood Characteristics. Scientists will also have the opportunity to present their findings to Congress, other Federal agencies and the President. The ideal candidate will have at least 15 semester in mathematics and statistics in courses plus 9 semester hours in social science, business, or related classes.

2. Physical Scientist/Biological Scientist Job, National Aeronautics & Space Administration – NASA, Houston, TX
NASA, the world’s leader in space and aeronautics, is seeking to fill research positions in the Physical Sciences and the Biological Sciences. Researchers will collaborate with other world-class scientists to lead major research and development efforts. The ideal candidates will have extensive coursework and research/job experience in the following areas: biomechanics, human centered technology, anthropometrics, software engineering, and human interface design. Candidates must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university to be considered for these positions.

3. Chemist Job, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Walnut Creek, CA
Ranked one of the top 15 places to work in the federal government, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is seeking a chemist to work in its Office of Science and Technology, Laboratory Services Division. The person in this position will serve as a specialist in the analysis of forensic evidence from criminal investigations of bombings and/or arsons. The candidate must have proven expertise in the fields of explosive residue, fire debris and/or trace evidence, in addition to possessing a broad-based knowledge in all areas of forensic science. In addition to holding a Bachelor’s Degree in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering, the ideal candidate will also have completed at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, course work in differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
