Working as a Driver for Greyhound Lines
Greyhound hires professional Motorcoach operators to transport passengers and packages on various routes. The company is looking for candidates who can represent the company in a positive way. Drivers employed by Greyhound Lines must be able to lift at least 100 lbs, if necessary.
A person who is hired for a driving position with Greyhound Lines will be on call 24 hours per day. There may be times that the driver will be required to be away from home for three days or more. Part of the driver’s responsibilities on the job are to keep records of the number of passengers on the bus, detailed driving logs and safety records.
To qualify for a position as a driver with Greyhound Lines, candidate must meet the following qualifications:

- Minimum of 22 years of age
- At least three years of driving experience
As a condition of being hired by Greyhound Lines, all applicants must consent to a background check. A drug and alcohol screen will also be conducted. An excellent driving record is also a requirement for being hired by the company.
Training Program for Greyhound Drivers
The training program given to Greyhound Drivers is made up of three parts. The first portion is a self-directed computer training program. During this period, the candidate is also asked to undergo a physical exam and drug screening tests. Selected candidates are invited to attend Greyhound’s driver training school for two weeks. The company provides accommodation, meals and a per diem payment to recruits.
The final phase of the Greyhound driver training period is three weeks long. During this time, the new driver completes 120 hours of time behind the wheel before starting to drive passengers on a set route.
